Professor Mazzucato was awarded the 2014 New Statesman SPERI Prize in Political Economy for her work on the entrepreneurial state and smart growth.
This is the first year of the prize, which will be awarded biennially to the scholar who has succeeded most effectively in disseminating original and critical ideas in political economy to a wider public audience over the preceding two or three years.
The shortlist included Thomas Piketty, Ha-Joon Chang, Simon Wren-Lewis, Ann Wren and Woolfgang Streeck.
